Flowing toward the future

California Water Data Consortium (CWDC) is an independent nonprofit advancing collaborative open data solutions that help Californians see their water more clearly and make confident decisions for a resilient future. As the organization evolved and leadership changed, CWDC came to Four Fin at a moment of transition after they had done some internal strategy alignment. They needed a refreshed brand that could differentiate their work from other water-related organizations and give them traction fast. The goal was a future-ready brand that was distinctive and aligned with stakeholders with room to flow forward.

A brand with bearings

We began by anchoring CWDC’s brand in a clear and inspiring strategic concept that could serve as a true north and reflect the common ground and swift progress at the heart of their work. We then wrote core company messaging and reimagined the website story through wireframes. From there, we designed a warm, modern visual identity inspired by natural tones and created branded visual systems that flow easily across photography. The refreshed brand was quickly deployed by CWDC after we created templates for a deck and reports they could run with. The result is a brand that helps the team align stakeholders and show up with confidence.

The final work reflected a truly shared effort, built through open collaboration, trust, and a deep investment from everyone involved. The brand refresh supports CWDC’s essential role at a pivotal moment for California, where water sustains millions of people, powers food systems, and supports entire economies and ecosystems. With a clearer voice and presence, CWDC is well positioned to bring people together, turn data into action, and help steward California’s water with confidence and care.

  • Give her a snack and she’ll love you forever. This is one extremely food motivated human. Tacos, cheese n crackers, and dark chocolate are all accepted forms of currency.
  • She once traveled around the world by herself in less than three months. Her favorite places on the planet (so far) are Chiapas and Sicily.
  • Her first word was moon.

  • Proud 90’s U.S. Space Camp Graduate where I got as close as I was gonna get to my kid aspirations of being an astronaut. Now super happy to be an Earthonaut (like you).
  • For fun I read wikipedia articles, watch youtube explainers, and look up the etymology of words, often leading to waaayyyy too many tabs open in my browser.
  • I’ve DJed on an art car at Burning Man. My “theme song” is what got the vibe going.
