Why We’re A Member of 1% For The Planet

Every day, we work hard for our clients. We show up every day to help them win. We show up to tweak the final details before their brands launch, create templates for them to keep winning long beyond us, and see their reputations improving, their teams growing and their impact widening. We get so much from seeing our clients getting additional funding, exits or huge partnerships. We are committed to using our skills to increase their success.

But we don’t do it just for the dopamine of these wins. We do it to facilitate our own livelihoods, and that of our planet.

You see, before we pay our team or allocate revenue to reinvesting in the company, we first pay our #1 stakeholder: our planet. 

We were first encouraged to make this pledge by seeing others who had. That’s the power of community and organizations like 1% for the Planet. By encouraging companies not only to make our planet one of their key company stakeholders, but to share that they are doing it, 1% has fueled a movement led by like-minded organizations admiring each other’s commitment and stepping up to do the same. Just last year, across all 5K+ Members around the world we collectively gave $102MM in certified giving to partners working on Rights to nature, Just economies, Conservation & restoration, and Resilient communities! This sum can go a long way for these not-for-profit partners on the frontlines. Together, we advance a diverse global tapestry of efforts to improve our environment. 

To shift the fate of our planet, we need everyone working together: the private sector, policy makers, activists, citizens, consumers, the media, and not-for-profit organizations.

We all have a skill to lend, and a role to play, and we at Four Fin are very proud to not only support the success of planet-forward businesses in the private sector, but to also help fund the work of the not-for-profit sector. 

We’ve been a certified 1% Member for 3 years now, and have contributed to 11 different Environmental Partners certified by 1% for the Planet, favoring those in our hometown of San Diego, including 1% for the Planet itself, San Diego Coastkeeper, I Love A Clean San Diego, San Diego Food System Alliance, Climate Action Campaign, The Surfrider Foundation Changing Tides Foundation SeaTrees Minorities in Shark Sciences and Ocean Discovery Institute

We look forward to many more years of giving, and with collective action toward a shared goal, to many more years of happy humans and a happy planet.
